Coach Shaun Callaghan



Shaun did his first Triathlon in Durban (South-Africa) in 1989 on a borrowed bike with no prior cycling background and has remained active in the sport ever since. From those early days he has gone on to qualify for both Clearwater and Kona and is an 8 time Ironman finisher. Shaun comes from a strong swimming background with a his real strength being open water swimming. He did his first Mile Open water swim at age 8 and spent many years refining the skill as a surf lifeguard and provincial water polo player. In his latter High School years Shaun started a successful running career, first in cross country (Provincial Team and University Scholarship) then in Ultra’s (Two Oceans Finisher twice). He first became involved in coaching in 1990 running a competitive swim squad of between 40 to 60 athletes between the ages of 8 and 18 through the early and middle 90’s.

Shaun and his family immigrated to Vancouver, BC in 2003 where he began his triathlon coaching career – first by running swim clinics for the local triathlon club and then taking on his first individual clients. In 2006 Shaun founded Pacific Rim Multisport and put on his first training Camp. In 2008 Shaun was invited to lead the Trifest Winter Camps in Tucson in conjunction with and in 2009 he worked with Chuckie V at the Spring Fling camp by Solvang Triathlon Camps. Shaun works exclusively with a limited number of clients, designing individual training programs to assist athletes achieve their goals. He focuses on applying the principle of specificity to individual athletes encouraging consistancy over time to achieve success. Shaun is a certified FaCT Level 1 Lactate Tester, F.I.S.T Time Trial and Road Bike Certified Bike Fitter and Certified Ironguides Method Coach.
